Glasgow University Charity Fashion Show was formed as a society in 2014 and since then, have gone from strength to strength. With 73 members of this ever growing society, formed of committee members, brand ambassadors and models, GUCFS have made their name well known on campus and online, with over 2500 followers on Facebook.
This year, the fashion show is in aid of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, a charity aimed at supporting babies, children and young people treated at The Royal Hospital for Children here in Glasgow. As always, GUCFS have chosen a very worthwhile cause and one that is even more prominent as it supports children locally.
GUCFS began fundraising for and working closely with GCHC over the summer. In August the society held a craft event at the hospital, where the children played around with paint for an afternoon and made the t-shirts that the models wore in the initial promo shoot. GUCFS makes regular visits to the hospital to develop a strong link with the kids they are helping, which pushes them to fundraise even more. On weekends, society members volunteer for bucket collections all around Glasgow, so don’t be surprised if you see them outside football stadiums or walking around shopping centres.
The newest and arguably most exciting fundraiser for this year, Jailbreak, takes place next weekend between the 10th and 11th of November. Students have 36 hours to get as far away from Glasgow as possible, without spending any money whilst simultaneously spreading awareness for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity on a global scale! Students will be tracked so that you can follow their movements live on www.gucfs.studentjailbreak.co.uk
But, whilst the jailbreakers are busy globetrotting, there will be a chance for us all to do our bit at the GUCFS HIVE night on 11th November, where we will sink a few pints of fun all in aid of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, of course.
Other fundraisers coming up this semester include; a GUCFS Christmas market with cards designed by the children in hospital, a Christmas-themed bungee jump for 15 committee members and a skydive for one very committed brand ambassador!
Last year GUCFS made over £15,000 for their charity and this year the society is determined to beat that total. Having already donated £2000 to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, they are on the right track to live up to their expectations with the main event still 4 months away. This time round, the fashion show will be taking place in a new venue – SWG3 Galvanisers, a brand new space held for lavish events only, not any old club night.
Absolutely unmissable, the fashion show will be taking place on the 24th of February 2018. This year’s theme is FOCUS, which embodies the ideas of primary colours and sharp lines, an aesthetic we can already see in the first model shoot. Unlike many student fashion shows, GUCFS hosts an extremely professional event and one of the most sophisticated nights on campus. With 25 gorgeous models strutting down the catwalk, you would be mistaken in thinking that Milan Fashion Week had come to Glasgow.
VIP tickets will be on sale in December and standard tickets will be released in January.
